Data Hunter Solo Sci-Fi Hex Crawl
A downloadable TTRPG
Data Hunter - A Solo Sci-Fi Hex Crawl
The first Alien orbs were discovered in 2062.
It had been 15 years since the invaders were defeated by a simple variant of the human Covid Virus of 2019. Once their weakness was discovered, they were quickly dispatched. Death came quickly to the aliens. Their demise was so fast that they left behind their alien bases and the orbs containing encrypted blueprints for advanced technologies.
Sadly for humankind, their Achilles heel was not discovered until after the nuclear attacks that left the earth scorched with pockets of radiation which would become known as the Radlands.
Humankind quickly broke down into isolated factions. Biospheres were built to grow food, and central hubs were created for factions to trade with each other.
Chunks of data with randomly inserted blockchain keys have become a valuable commodity. The keys can be used to decrypt the alien orbs in the faction's tech labs.
As a modern-day bounty hunter, your job is to collect data in the field and return it to the labs for analysis.
But keeping the factions happy is a delicate balancing act. Selling data or completing missions for one faction will upset another, resulting in them not wanting to trade with you or eventually wanting to fight you to the death whenever you cross paths.
WELCOME ABOARD DATA HUNTER

- Battle creatures, Savage Anarchists, and other faction groups.
- Use trade to earn Cred and upgrade your body armor, weapon, or data collection tools.
- Track (and balance) your reputation with opposing faction forces.
- Engage companions to complement your skills and explore the Radlands.
- Earn XP to improve your stats and learn new skills

Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity in providing PWYW copies of your game. I’m a disabled pension who can’t afford much so these free games really help me out in being able to get games and keeping my mind active. When I find a game I really like I come back when I can spare some money to support the creators and get any other games or expansions.
I really appreciate your hard work and kindness in providing PWYW copies.
Hi - When you enter or re-enter a Ruined Outpost, do follow the Ancient Ruins text on page 12 or generate an encounter on page 15? Thanks again!
You can play it both ways - but the intention was that a ruined outpost does not contain an orb (on the assumption it was taken in the past) - but it could have an encounter, and you need to check each time you visit the ruined outpost.
Enjoying game so far! 1. When you set up combat and roll 3 on the opponent table for Savage Anarchists, do you place 3 dice with 3 pips showing on each or is it 1 dice showing 3 pips? Thanks
If you roll a 3, you place a D6 with the 3 showing. If you rolled 11, you may need a D6 with a 6 showing and other D6 with a 5 showing. The dice add up to the rolled value.
I gave the game a try.
I love how you managed to create a world with simple rules. It was easy to follow the rules as I played.
I missed more agency in the combat, rolling dice for find out the result of my actions is not my thing. I'd prefer some dice placement, or card play instead.
This is hands down the best game and the most fun I ever had with a solo rpg/hex crawl. It is such a great game, beating Ironsworn and the likes affordlessly. It is pretty simple and easy to learn but there is so much depth with the faction reputation and the encounters and leveling up and and and... you could easily add journaling and further roleplay to your own playthrough if that is what you are looking for. Data Hunter somehow combines the feelings of the Wasteland and Stalker video games with a little bit of Mutant Year Zero TTRPG. And you can pay what you want, so what's not to love?? Thank you so much for this game!
Thank you for the great feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed it as much as i enjoyed making it.
Hi! Done reading the rules, and it looks like a promising game. I don't know if i missed it, but I can't find the win/lose condition or how to end the game, OR is it designed for the player to set the ending?
There is no winning condition as such. Over time you can work your way up from Recruit to Legendary Commander. The game was designed to be open ended - so you could play as short or as long as you like. The next game I am working on (Pirate based) will have a win condition at the end of a campaign of sailing the high seas. (Due out in September)
Oh! I see, that's cool! Maybe, once I have a full grasp on the game. I'll try to put some game ender, or some sort of quest/achievement with a limited recurring life(maybe 2-3). Anyway, kudos! Looking forward to that pirate based, hopefully it's another gm-less solo. :)
Btw, I like how you use the dice and deck of cards. Hopefully sometime in the future, you can try Tarot cards(with all the minor and major arcana) as well. :)
any update on that pirates based game?
Thanks for the reminder. I finished designing the game a while ago and got halfway through writing it up. I'll revisit it again soon to get it finished. It will be good to see it again through fresh eyes as well :-)
awesome. I look forward to trying it out.
