B.A.Y.N - The But, And, Yes, No Oracles (Revised V3)
A downloadable game
New Version 3 – The BAYN Oracles
Welcome to The BAYN Oracles v2, a complete upgrade to my original solo roleplaying ruleset.
This new edition adds moves inspired by Ironsworn, a fully integrated character sheet with skill chains (Special → General → Base), and a streamlined approach where everything is driven by a Yes/No/And/But oracle — no separate GM, no complex stat blocks, just pure narrative flow.
B.A.Y.N. stands for But, And, Yes, and No — the four core responses that drive this oracle system and shape your story.
Whether you want to improvise an entire adventure or breathe new life into a prewritten module, BAYN v2 gives you the structure to keep the game moving while leaving you in control of the narrative.
What’s New in Version 3
-
Moves framework – Each situation uses a clear skill chain (Special Skill → General Skill → Base Skill), perfect for skill-based rolls and narrative prompts.
-
Character creation without numeric stats – Define your character by choosing Likely, 50/50, or Unlikely ratings for skills, with built-in limits to keep characters balanced.
-
Integrated fallback rules – If you don’t have the required skill, roll the fallback from the move mapping automatically.
-
Oracle-driven resolution – Every action, from combat to exploration to social interaction, is resolved via the Yes/No/And/But table.
-
Condensed move-to-skill reference – A quick-reference table links every move to its exact skill chain for fast play.
Why BAYN Is Essential for Solo RPGs
Solo roleplaying offers freedom, but also unique challenges — especially for players who struggle to keep momentum without prompts.
The BAYN Oracles solve this by giving you:
-
Prewritten Yes/No questions tailored to different situations.
-
Keyword tables to inspire twists, events, and complications.
-
Skill-linked moves so every outcome feels grounded in your character’s capabilities.
This keeps the story alive, surprising, and immersive — whether you’re running a custom campaign or exploring a module you already know.
Prewritten Modules Reimagined
In solo play, knowing the module can kill the mystery. BAYN v2 solves this by making your character’s decisions independent from your player knowledge:
-
Hidden secrets stay hidden – Your character can genuinely miss a clue or fail to open a locked door.
-
Real surprises return – You might walk into danger without warning.
-
Exploration feels authentic – You follow your character’s motivations, not your own meta-knowledge.
Even familiar adventures regain tension and unpredictability.
Includes:
-
A solo RPG ruleset with a 4-step game loop.
-
Yes/No/But/And Oracles for both prewritten modules and original adventures.
-
Over 100 situation-specific Yes/No questions.
-
47 keyword tables on 4 base oracle pages.
-
10 themed bonus oracle sheets for genres like sci-fi, post-apocalyptic, western, horror, detective, time travel, and more.
-
Skill and creature tables for multiple settings.
-
100 adventure seeds.
-
Works system-agnostically with games like Ironsworn, Mythic, and more.
-
All tables are d6, d20, and d100-based for minimal dice requirements.
-
A4 formatting (scale to fit if printing differently).

I have just posted a big update. It adds moves (like ironsworn) and a statless character sheet
I know this is mostly for solo playing but I can see this being a resource for newbies to the hobby in general as well!
V2 has revised tables. The 2 base oracle pages have been split into 4, and are now printed portrait. The feedback I received on V1 indicated that the writing was too small to read, and that it would be better to split the 2 tables into 4.
I am intrigued! Looking forward to reading more.
